De Britse basgitarist Jet Harris, oprichter van de band The Shadows, is op 71-jarige leeftijd aan kanker overleden. Harris heette eigenlijk Terence en had de naam Jet te danken aan zijn atletische prestaties op school. Het was een goede hardloper. The Shadows was de begeleidingsband van zanger Cliff Richard. Jet Harris werd in 1958 aan Cliff Richard voorgesteld en heeft de naam The Shadows bedacht. Vele hits werden er gemaakt w.o. APACHE, WONDERFUL LAND en LIVIN' DOLL, alvorens Jet in 1962 zijn muzikale loopbaan voortzette met Shadows-drummer Tony Meehan. Hits als Diamonds, Besame Mucho en Scarlet O'hara kwamen uit hun muzikale vingers. .

Jet in Holland. In 2009 en 2010 organiseerde Octantdirect ism de SNS Regio Bank en met Fabulous Sound of the Sixties en Bert Bossink een jaren-60 avond in het sfeervolle Jacobi-Theater te Utrecht. Hoogtepunt was een optreden van de allereerste en bekendste basgitarist van de Shadows
Jet Harris (o.a. Apache, Livin'doll).
Tevens was hij de bedenker van de naam:
"The Shadows" (voorheen The Drifters).

Het nummer "Shot to Pieces" van dit album is in Engeland opgenomen incl. bluesharmonica gespeeld door Ruud Wegman uit Maarssen (www.bluesharmonica.nl) Jet Harris speelt Six String Bass, Nigel Hopkins trumpet/drums en Paul Rumble is de lead/rhythm gitarist. Nigel Hopkins is ook de producer.

exciting new album from Jet
Harris is packed with original material, plus a brand new recording of 'Diamonds',recorded
on a de-tuned Fender, as in the original recording in 1963. Also
featured, along with the other brand new material, is the very moving 'Song for Tony',which pays
tribute to Jet's old sparring partner, the late Tony Meehan.
To play it safe and record an album of ‘old hits’
would
have been too easy, and Jet feels that recording this album has given
him the chance to express totally his musical diversities in the same

Za 18 april 2009 "Jet Harris & Band" (Jet Harris, Nigel Hopkins, Paul Rumble) spelen in het Jacobi Theater te Utrecht. Met Ruud Wegman (bluesharmonica en gitaar) worden onder andere de nummers "Song For Tony" en "San Antonio" gespeeld. In het voorprogramma staan The Rapiers (dé opvolgers van The Shadows in Engeland)
Zo. 11 april 2010 speelt "Jet Harris & Band" (incl. 2 andere leden v/d Shadows en Wegman) in Tilburg aan het eind v/d dag op de Internationale Shadows Fanmeeting-dag.
